I’m shopping at Manandshaving again and looking at the many shaving soaps and shaving creams. What should I choose now? I called Manandshaving again and was advised to start with a neutral or lightly scented shaving product. The plainer, the better if you have easily irritated or sensitive skin. The question, of course, is whether I actually have sensitive skin or whether that cheap shaving soap is causing my irritated cheeks. After my first bad purchase, I don’t want to buy an expensive shaving soap right away, so I order Proraso shaving soap for sensitive skin. According to Manandshaving, this is an excellent shaving soap to start with. It offers great value for money.
A week later, I try again. But this time with the Proraso shaving soap. I work my shaving brush into the shaving soap and apply the lather. On the website, I read that for the best results, you should lather the shaving foam on your face for about a minute. This gives you a lovely, rich layer of shaving foam and makes the beard hairs a little softer. After a minute, I indeed have a substantial layer of shaving foam on my cheeks. And it doesn’t dry out. After shaving, my skin feels smooth, fresh and comfortable. No burning sensation or other irritation. Wow, this is a completely different experience compared with the rubbish from the drugstore. I actually no longer need aftershave balm. That Proraso is simply damn good stuff. A few days later, I use it again and once again enjoy a comfortable shave.
Looking at it all together, I can say that I’ve been using the wrong shaving products for the past few years. I’ve basically always shaved with rubbish. Good grief, what a revelation. After reaching this valuable conclusion, I buy a new shaving cream. Yes, I’m really getting into it now. This time, one with a lovely fresh mint scent: Taylor of Old Bond Street Peppermint shaving cream. I had never heard of this brand before, but apparently many shaving brands are produced in England. Taylor of Old Bond Street has a huge range of shaving creams. When I open the newly arrived jar, I immediately smell the wonderful scent of peppermint. Delicious. I’m already looking forward to shaving with this cream. The next day, of course, I use the new shaving product. I quickly work my shaving brush into the jar and lather it on my face. Wow, it’s a foam explosion. This English shaving cream lathers like thunder. You quickly get a creamy, fresh shaving foam on your face. The entire bathroom smells of peppermint. Yes, this feels good. The razor glides smoothly over the skin. You can feel that the shaving foam provides excellent protection. No irritation after shaving. The Proraso shaving soap was good, but this is next level. That’s also because I absolutely love mint.
Can shaving get even better, smoother and more comfortable? Read about it in my next blog.
