Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the call to boycott Russian products has grown louder. Initially, it is primarily about natural gas and oil. But there are also many 'small' consumer goods produced in Russia. In St. Petersburg, Russia, there is a large factory for razor blades: ZAO Petersburg Products International. Gillette is partially owner of this production facility. Perhaps Gillette is also working to distance itself from this factory. In this factory, razor blades for the safety razor are produced daily. Specifically, it concerns the double edge razor blades of the Gillette brand and under license for other brands. These shaving products are sold worldwide. In Moscow, there is also a large razor blade factory, namely JSC Mostochlegmash. Here, various brands are also produced under license.
As far as we know, the following brands are produced in these factories:
- Astra Stainless
- GSB
- Gillette Platinum
- Nacet
- 7 O'clock yellow
- Permasharp
- Gilette Ruby
- Sputnik
- Polsilver
- Voskod
- Rapira
We do not judge and we can very well imagine that you would like to continue shaving with your favorite razor. The choice to use or not use these brands is, of course, personal. But we have decided to temporarily halt the sale of these 'Russian' brands. We have recently taken these blades offline and they are no longer displayed in the webshop. We are aware that it is a very small and modest act of 'resistance'. We also call on other retailers to cease the sale of Russian razor blades.
