Why are unscented shaving products better for your skin?

Just like many personal care products, shaving products are also scented. In our webshop, you will find a variety of shaving soaps and shaving creams with the most exotic and exciting scents. There is a fragrance available for every nose.

We frequently speak with customers who have sensitive skin and are allergic to specific fragrance components. These can lead to unpleasant allergic skin irritations, such as red spots or a burning sensation. Usually, these irritations occur immediately after use, sometimes only after a few days. In this case, shaving is a torment. You can imagine that shaving with a razor over irritated skin is not pleasant.

Shaving products with and without scents

What exactly are those fragrance components? In many cases, they are synthetic composite fragrance substances. The manufacturer purchases these components or produces them in-house. A small amount is often enough to give the shaving product its unique scent. The manufacturer is legally required to mention this on the label as an ingredient. You often see 'Parfum' or 'Fragrance' on the label.

At some artisanal brands, such as Meissner Tremonia and Biolijf, no ready-made fragrance substances are used. These products are therefore not scented. The scent of the shaving soap or after shave balm comes from the added essential oils. So they do not contain synthetic composite fragrance components. If you add pure natural lavender oil to shaving cream, then this shaving cream naturally smells like lavender. Or if you add mint oil to the after shave balm, then this balm has a mint scent.

But what if you hate scents? Or if you are hypersensitive to the added perfume or fragrance components? Perhaps you are allergic to various (synthetic) fragrance substances? Then you often have a problem with regular shaving products in retail. Fortunately, you won’t have a problem with us.
